About Explore the Map

Hey, I’m Sam! I'm based in Kelowna, BC and love exploring the Okanagan (and beyond), finding hidden trails, scenic views, and cool adventure spots.

Whether it's hiking local mountains or traveling to new places, I love sharing my journey and helping you get out there and explore too.

A summer of paddling is a summer well spent ✨ W A summer of paddling is a summer well spent ✨

We explored so many new spots this year and had a blast! I’m hoping to sneak in a few more paddles before it gets too cold 🤞

Featured in this gallery:

1 & 7: Kalamalka Lake near Rattlesnake Point is always stunning and so fun to explore! I caught some heat on Facebook for calling what we found a cave, but hey, it may be small… but it’s still a cave in my books 🤷‍♀️

2: Slocan Lake in the Kootenays is so calm, beautiful, and such a peaceful paddle. 100% worth the drive out.

3 & 5: #gifted A rechargeable electric pump is a game changer! This one by @topump_outdoors can pump THREE boards in one charge. I’ve snagged a code for you guys too, EXPLORETHEMAP10

4: The Enderby float is a summer must-do! So glad we made it happen this year. (Google it for my full blog post with all the details!)

6. I’ve been loving lemonades this summer, so of course it had to come paddleboarding with us.

What have been some of your favourite memories this summer?

Who else can’t make it through a drive-in movie Who else can’t make it through a drive-in movie without dozing off? 🙋‍♀️

I can’t be the only one.

I swear, the second the sun goes down, I’ve got about 20 minutes before I’m out cold. Probably doesn’t help that we always make a comfy bed, but let’s ignore that.

Last time I said “enough’s enough” and was determined to finally crack the code!

#ad Huuuuge thanks to @hibearco for sending over their Adventure Flask because, turns out, a tailgate coffee was the answer to this exact problem. I was able to stay wide awake through the whole movie and the hour-long drive home! I honestly have no idea the last time that happened (if ever?)

Guess we all know what I’ll be bringing every time now.

And it doesn’t just brew coffee! You can use it literally all day because this little flask can shake up cocktails, infuse your water with fruit, and the cup even slides off the bottom to reveal a beautiful design by @wyatthersey. Gear that’s so versatile is a huge win in my books!

What’s your secret for staying awake at the drive-in?

If you’ve never gone canyoning in Kelowna, you’re missing one of the coolest ways to spend a summer day in the Okanagan!

It's a bit of a chaotic adventure, but that's what makes it so fun! You get to rappel down waterfalls, slide down natural waterslides, jump into pools, and see spots of the canyon most people never get to see.

I've gone canyoning with @okanagancanyoning a few times now and it’s easily one of my favourite things to do in Kelowna!

They have three tours: two in Kelowna and one in Penticton. They're all beginner-friendly and are between 4-7 hours.

The guides are amazing and they make you feel incredibly safe and empowered, even when doing things that scare you!

👉 If you want to add a new adventure to your Okanagan bucket list, comment "guide" and I'll send you all the details, plus a discount code!

Have fun out there!
