About Explore the Map

Hey, I’m Sam! I'm based in Kelowna, BC and love exploring the Okanagan (and beyond), finding hidden trails, scenic views, and cool adventure spots.

Whether it's hiking local mountains or traveling to new places, I love sharing my journey and helping you get out there and explore too.

This is by far one of the best ways to spend an Ok This is by far one of the best ways to spend an Okanagan summer day ☀️

The Enderby River float (aka the Shuswap River float) is summer at its best! Grab a floatie or paddleboard and spend the afternoon drifting on the river with your favourite people.

I’ve put together a full blog post with maps, parking tips, gear suggestions, and a bunch of extra tips so your float day goes perfectly.

Comment “guide” and I’ll send the link to your DMs so you can start planning (or Google "Enderby River Float", it's near the top of the results).

There are lots of different ways to float the river, but the most common routes are:

☀️ Belvidere Park to Tuey Park, the most popular route that's right in town
☀️ Belvidere Park to Riverside Campground, short and sweet
☀️ Trinity Bridge to Eby Hand Launch, a little faster and out of town
☀️ Eby Hand Launch to Belvidere Park, long and absolutely beautiful

A few quick tips:
☀️ Late July–mid September is the best time to go
🚗 Parking fills up fast on hot weekends
🛟 Always have a PFD and whistle with you
🧢 There’s almost no shade, so sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are a must
🏖 Make sure you get out at Tuey Park, there’s nowhere to get out for hours if you miss it

This has been one of my absolute favourite summer activities since I was a kid! I hope you love it.

The best thing I ever did for my wanderlust was ex The best thing I ever did for my wanderlust was explore more of the Okanagan ✨

Whether you’re local or visiting, there’s no shortage of amazing adventures right here! Here are a few of my favourites:

☀️ Paddling on Okanagan Lake and Kalamalka Lake
☀️ Unique monthly events with @wanderingwellnessgetaway (like this e-bike wine tour!)
☀️ Canyoning in Kelowna and Penticton with @okanagancanyoning (save 10% with "EXPLORETHEMAP10")
☀️Wine flights & cream puffs at @arrowleafcellars in Lake Country
☀️ Milkshakes from @offthegridorganicwinery in West Kelowna
☀️ Sunset at the Penticton pier after enjoying the lake

And that's just the start!

There are a million more fun things to do in the Okanagan and they’ve kept me exploring nonstop! It’s also way cheaper and easier than travelling the world.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love that too, but when your backyard is this beautiful (and people travel here for their vacations), why not take full advantage of it? 🫶

What are some of your favourite Okanagan adventures?

Have you followed the gold rush? @barkervillebc i Have you followed the gold rush?

@barkervillebc is a historic town in the Cariboo that was once the centre of BC’s gold rush in the late 1800s!

People flocked to this remote area hoping to strike it rich. These days, you can still gold pan, but you’re more likely to walk away with a richer understanding of BC’s past (see what I did there? 😉).

While you’re here, check out these cool experiences:

1️⃣ @goldfieldbakery has so many delicious goodies! I loved the grab-and-go lunches, huuuge cinnamon buns, and bannock.

2️⃣ @barkervillebc has live history performances happening all day long, often more than one at a time! It’s such a fun way to learn about the town’s past.

3️⃣ Hop on a real horse-drawn stagecoach with Barnard’s Express. Rides run Thursday to Monday, every half hour from 10am–4:30pm.

These are just a small portion of what you can see and do at Barkerville!

Okanagan summers ✨ Family BBQs always bring bac Okanagan summers ✨

Family BBQs always bring back the best memories. #ad

Growing up, I couldn’t get enough of long afternoons in the sun, plates loaded with food, and running around barefoot with my sister and cousin.

Some things haven’t changed. I still love stopping at roadside fruit stands for peaches and cherries, picking apricots from my parents’ tree, and bringing Okanagan drinks like @okanaganspring to share (they just happen to be a little more adult now).

There’s something so simply beautiful about sunny backyard hangs, they really are the heart of summer ✨

What food or drink instantly brings you back to your favourite family BBQs?
