Winter in Kelowna is packed with so many amazing things to do, but if I had to narrow it down, these would be my top five picks. They’re just so fun! You’ll find even more options below, but trust me, these will definitely make your winter in Kelowna a little less gloomy and a lot more fun.

Winter Wine Tour in Kelowna

Winter is such an underrated time to go wine touring in Kelowna! The crowds are gone, the tasting rooms are warm and cozy, and there’s just something so relaxing about sipping wine while looking out at snow-covered vineyards.

You can plan your own wine tour (if someone’s willing to be the designated driver) or let someone else do the work by booking a guided tour. Either way, you’re in for an amazing time. Let me break it down by area because there’s just so many cool places to go.

Kelowna Wine Tour

Kelowna is packed with awesome wineries and many of them have tasting rooms (and even restaurants) that stay open all winter. There’s an overwhelming number of wineries in Kelowna, so here are some of my go-to spots:

  • Forbidden Spirits Distillery: This place has a fun vibe. They make small-batch spirits with locally grown apples which creates unique flavours like their Rebel Vodka.
  • Luckhurst Distillery: Tucked away on a gorgeous rural property in Kelowna, Luckhurst makes amazing small-batch gin, vodka, and limoncello. It’s the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy some quality spirits.

Kelowna’s craft and microbreweries are great places to warm up and relax in the winter. There’s something about their laid-back vibes, local flavours, and cozy spaces that makes them perfect for hanging out with friends over a pint (or two).

Plus, so many of them serve amazing food, so it’s easy to settle in and make an afternoon of it. If you’re looking for a chill winter hangout, these breweries are a must!

For me, good food is non-negotiable after a day of adventuring and Kelowna’s winter restaurant scene never disappoints. From cozy cafes to fancy dining, there’s always something to hit the spot.

Below are some of my all-time favourites, but with so many incredible places to eat, it’s honestly hard to go wrong!

  • Yamas Restaurant: One of our favourites in Kelowna for Greek food! We always get the platter.
  • Bernie’s Supper Club & Cinema: Dinner and a movie, but way cooler. They have great food and indie films in a fun setting.

  • El Taquero: Authentic Mexican street tacos with bold flavours.
  • Little Hobo Soup & Sandwich Shop: Homemade soups and sandwiches; it’s comfort food heaven.

Kelowna’s Fancy (But Fun) Food Spots

These are some of my favourite spots in Kelowna when I’m looking for a little luxury—perfect for date nights or special celebrations. They’re not everyday places, but they do make winter a little easier.

  • Frind Winery: This lakefront gem has such a cozy winter experience. Their dining domes are a must-try for a super private meal.
  • Waterfront Wines Restaurant & Bar: Farm-to-table goodness with an impressive wine list. It’s classy without being stuffy and will impress your foodie friends.
  • Bouchons Bistro: A little slice of France right in Kelowna. Think escargot, crème brûlée, and all the fancy vibes.
  • La Bussola Restaurant: A family-run Italian gem that’s been around forever (since 1974!). Killer pasta and an even better wine list—what’s not to love?
  • Old Vines Restaurant at Quails’ Gate: Cozy up with stunning vineyard views and a menu that’s full of local and seasonal ingredients.

Outdoor Winter Activities in Kelowna

When the snow falls, Kelowna turns into a magical winter wonderland and I can’t get enough!

Whether you’re carving down fresh powder at Big White, snowshoeing through peaceful forests, or gliding around an ice rink with a hot chocolate in hand, there’s always something to do. Winter here is just the best!

Skiing & Snowboarding

No Kelowna winter guide would be complete without mentioning the amazing skiing and snowboarding nearby. We’re lucky to have two incredible resorts within a short drive. Both have great skiing and snowboarding, as well snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, and après-ski.

  • Big White Ski Resort: Just 45 minutes from downtown Kelowna, Big White is a must for skiers and snowboarders. It has over 100 runs and stunning Okanagan views.
  • SilverStar Mountain Resort: Located about an hour away in Vernon, this resort has fantastic terrain and a charming village.

Snowshoeing in Kelowna

Snowshoeing is one of my favourite ways to enjoy Kelowna in the winter. There’s something so peaceful about trekking through snow-covered forests and taking in the fresh air. There are so many gorgeous trails to explore—it’s the perfect way to soak up the magic of winter!

  • Telemark Nordic Club: A variety of groomed snowshoe trails just outside of Kelowna. Perfect for both beginners and seasoned snowshoers.
  • Kelowna Nordic Club: A hidden gem with over 75 kilometers of snowshoe trails weaving through wintery forests. Perfect if you’re looking for a quiet winter escape.
  • Myra Canyon Trestles: Explore the historic trestles blanketed in snow—an easy-to-moderate route with unforgettable views.
  • Knox Mountain Park: Snowshoe up the trails for panoramic views of Kelowna and Okanagan Lake.

Skating in Kelowna

Skating in Kelowna is such a fun way to enjoy the winter. Grab your skates and get ready for some good ol’ Canadian winter fun!

Winter Hiking in Kelowna

I used to hate winter, but winter hiking completely changed my perspective! It’s what made me fall in love with the season.

One of the best things about Kelowna is that most of the hiking trails you enjoy in the summer are just as accessible and beautiful in the winter. Below are some of my favourites, but honestly, check out all the trails on this blog and AllTrails—you can pretty much hike them all in the winter!

  • Knox Mountain: Tons of trails, all accessible in winter, with stunning views of Kelowna. Paul’s Tomb and Apex are great picks, but if you’re after quieter paths, explore some of the lesser-known trails—you won’t be disappointed!
  • Mill Creek Regional Park: Enjoy a peaceful hike through snow-draped trees and along a creek that features a few waterfalls—it’s especially serene in the winter.
  • Fintry Falls: A beautiful winter hike to a frozen waterfall. The short trail is easy to navigate, but the stairs can get a little slippery. (Here are other Okanagan waterfall to check out this winter).

Fat Biking in Kelowna

Fat biking is slowly gaining traction in Kelowna and it’s such a cool way to explore in winter—though I’ll be honest, it’s harder than you’d think, especially if you’re not a regular biker!

You can rent fat bikes from local shops or join a tour at Meadow Vista for an e-bike experience. Just a heads-up, though: fat biking doesn’t work on fluffy, fresh snow. You’ll need trails that are groomed or packed down by snowshoers..

  • Big White: Big White has groomed trails made for fat biking that wind through gorgeous snowy scenery. You can rent bikes right there, so it’s easy to get started!
  • SilverStar: Groomed alpine trails and on-site rentals make SilverStar a great spot for winter fat biking.
  • Myra Canyon: A unique way to experience this historic area—ride your fat bike along the snowy trestles! Tours are offered that includes everything you’ll need.

Unique Activities in Kelowna

Winter in Kelowna always feels full of culture and creativity. I love how the city’s arts scene thrives during the colder months.

If you’re looking for something other than wine, food, or outdoor adventures, there are so many amazing cultural activities and quicky adventures. From local events to cozy venues, Kelowna has plenty of ways to keep you busy this winter!
